[ castiel, suffice to say, has a lot of questions. but alex is gone before he has an opportunity for any of them to be answered, surrounded by others who've only just been freshly pulled from their rooms aboard this— space station. while humans aren't the only species inhabiting the galaxy in the universe he hails from, no species has created space flight on this advanced a level—
the heavens are normally the domain of the angels.
castiel will be walking around the ship, asking his questions to anyone who seems like they might have some information, and, in general, looking dazed and mildly ill. ]

[ he can't help but wonder if this place is haunted. or, perhaps, staffed by some manner of supernatural being— he hears about the hall of mirrors and can't help but find himself gravitating toward the attraction, only to both witness both his past and future selves.
return to heaven, they whisper, it's all for nought— he stays, straining to hear more, but there's nothing, nothing.
he leaves soon after.
the "tunnel of love" is no less illuminating. at the end, he steps out, dazed— having seen himself march heedlessly into the jaws of death, lucifer's foot on dean's throat. a broken neck.
he doesn't play any of the carnival games. he watches the others, lingering for a while before disappearing into another part of the station. ]

It's almost a relief to find the aviary, though it's obviously just a trifle meant to entertain the guests on board, and seeing featherless birds even manage to fly is painful at best. But it doesn't seem to matter. Rather, it instills him with some sense of comfort: here's a familiar, living thing; here's an animal creature in all its beauty and simplicity, the likes of which God made.
When he finds the toothed bird, he looks into its three eyes and it speaks to him in a young woman's stern, disapproving voice: You've changed. You've changed.
You've changed.
It's hard to say whether it affects him; eventually he wanders away, to sit near the other birds and rest a while.

Eventually, Castiel grows tired, and finds a dark corridor to huddle up in, looking pale and faintly green around the gills— perhaps it's the faint remnant of some lost angelic sense, or simply a physiological response, but being trapped on a space station orbiting a black hole is making his stomach turn. He knows he should go rest in one of the beds— but somehow, this feels safer. He could also use something to eat, but, well. He still forgets.
( ooc: this castiel is the AU castiel from the episode 5.04 "the end", however, his canon point is several years before the events of the episode itself, which take place in 2014. castiel hasn't been mortal for quite as long, and though the world has fallen into ruin, he hasn't yet lost all hope. if you'd like to talk or plot, hmu at chayot! )
